There are numerous resources available to the residents of Michigan City and LaPorte County, and our visitors, that provide information and support in times of need.
The following list is just a few of the wonderful organizations working hard to make Michigan City a better place for all. Please follow the links of the organization’s below for more information.

 

INDIANA VOTER PORTAL

Register to vote, check your voting status and find your voting place. There have been changes to ward boundaries.

Voter registration ends April 3
In-Person Absentee Voting open April 4-May 2, 2023 . Early voting office is on the corner of 8th and Wabash Street.

 

CITY OF MICHIGAN CITY

Visit the City of Michigan City website to find information about your local government, committees, commissions and departments.

The Michigan City Common Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 PM CST in the Council Chambers at City Hall located at 100 East Michigan Boulevard in Michigan City.
Everyone is welcome to attend the Council meetings and have their voice heard.

 

INDIANA 2-1-1

2-1-1 is a free and confidential service that helps Hoosiers across Indiana find the local resources they need. MICHIGAN CITY SALVATION ARMY

Wherever there is a need in Michigan City, the Salvation Army is dedicated to doing the most good for our community.

Don has asked that in lieu of making a financial contribution to support his re-election campaign, that all individuals interested in building a better Michigan City make their donation to The Salvation Army of Michigan City.

 

DUNEBROOK

Dunebrook helps parents build healthier, happier families by providing guidance, encouragement and education in the home.

Dunebrook also offers intervention assistance in child abuse investigations.

 

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB

Boys & Girls Club of Michigan City supports and guides more than 500 of Michigan City’s children every year through after school and summer programs. Membership is open to all youth ages 5 – 18.

 

HEALTHLINC

For those who qualify, HealthLinc has a sliding fee discount program to help provide high-quality affordable health care. HealthLinc accepts Medicaid, Medicare, most commercial insurances, and the uninsured.

 

OPEN DOOR ADOLESCENT HEALTH CENTER

The Open Door Adolescent Health Center reduces student absenteeism, minimizes the interruption of education for health reasons and improves students' access to comprehensive health/mental health services and education.

 

SAND CASTLE SHELTER FOR CHILDREN & FAMILIES

Sand Castle offers temporary shelter to LaPorte County families: primarily single moms with children; sometimes families headed by couples or dads, too. When space is available, single women are also accepted. Single men are referred to the Faith Community Men’s Overnight Shelter.

 

STEPPING STONE SHELTER FOR WOMEN

Providing those who are victims of domestic violence, services including 24/7 crisis lines & intervention, temporary shelter, clothing & food, transitional housing, counseling, support groups, and advocacy.

 

INTERFAITH COMMUNITY PADS

Interfaith Community PADS (Public Action Delivering Shelter) is LaPorte County’s only temporary emergency shelter program for both men and women.
