Don Przybylinski, President and Member At-Large

Don Przybylinski has served for 12 years as a Common Council Member At-Large for the people of Michigan City. Don is leading initiatives for more efficient city government spending that focuses on less reliance on river boat funding and creates prosperity for all. He supports incentives that attract new business developments and expand existing businesses that will offer a living wage to Michigan City workers. He has worked to expand the Promise Scholarship Program to include all high school students who live within the Michigan City boundaries, regardless whether the family rents or owns their home. Don continues to support funding for infrastructure improvements to streets and sidewalks in all neighborhoods. He supports the arts and welcomes the artists, designers, and entrepreneurs to enhance and beautify our city. Don believes strongly in the power of community and works collaboratively toward solutions for violent crime, safety issues, and resource inequities for our citizens.

“I have a passion for the city, and I want to see the city progress,” Przybylinski said. “I love to see projects come to fruition, and of course, the quality of life improving. Every day when I awake, I always set in my mind what I want to accomplish that day; and there’s always things that I want to do for Michigan City.” (News Dispatch, February 10, 2019)

Don is continuously looking for ways to save taxpayers and the city money; to improve the lives of our citizens; to increase tourism and economic development opportunities; to invest in our youth and develop them into tomorrow’s leaders; and to make Michigan City an even better place to live, work, and play.

Don and his wife, Jinny, are life-long residents of Michigan City. Don worked as a managerial leader at US Steel for 37 years before his retirement in 2015. Jinny served our community as a kindergarten and second grade teacher for 34 years, teaching hundreds of local youths over the decades. They have two children, Maryellen and Joey, and a grandson. The Przybylinski Family regularly volunteers for organizations across Michigan City to help improve our community. In 2018, the Przybylinskis served as the Christmas Chair Family for the Salvation Army of Michigan City. Don has volunteered regularly as a coffee pourer and bell ringer during the Salvation Army of Michigan City’s holiday fundraising seasons.

Don and his family are committed to serving Michigan City with friendship, compassion, respect, and professionalism to ensure everyone in our community has the opportunity to prosper and thrive.
